About Weisen-U
Our History
1

Weisen-U, developed by Shigaken Pharmaceutical Industrial Co. Ltd. , (“Shigaken”) has helped countless patients with gastrointestinal problems since its launch.  According to a report published by a professor of Stanford University School of Medicine in 1955, Methylmethionine Sulfonium Chloride, the core ingredient of Weisen-U, can effectively suppress hyperacidity, maintain a healthy mucosa layer along the digestive tract, and protect the stomach wall against the gastric acid, relieving pain and curing the upset stomach. Its remarkable efficacy has been clinically proven by leading medical schools and institutions, including the Department of Medicine of Keio University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine of Kanazawa University School of Medicine, Atami Stomach and Duodenal Hospital, Department of Surgery of the University of Tokyo Hospital and the Third Department of Medicine of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine.

In the 1960s, Shigaken introduced Weisen-U, a gastrointestinal drug based on Vitamin U (Methylmethionine Sulfonium Chloride). Acclaimed for its exceptional efficacy, stability and safety, Weisen-U has since been the trusted over-the-counter drug in Asia.

2-2-2

As Weisen-U gained popularity in Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast Asia in the 1960s, it was brought to Europe and the Americas in the 1970s. As one of the first imported gastrointestinal drugs in China, Weisen-U explored the Mainland market in the early 1980s.  In accordance with the latest regulation issued by the State Drug Administration of the Department of Health in China, effective from the year 2000, it changed the Chinese trade name from"胃仙-U WEISEN-U" to "维仙优 WEISEN-U". However, its manufacturer, formula, efficacy, and dosage and user instructions are exactly the same as the Hong Kong version. Known for its outstanding efficacy, Weisen-U has been widely used worldwide and remains the best-selling gastrointestinal drug in Hong Kong.
